A PLACE OF COMMUNITY LIFE Becoming Christians brings us into a new family - hence the church’s “strapline” - Family In The City. Refurbishing the building will allow us to spend more of our time in a community building sharing time together in communal activities, including meals, study, creative activities and recreation. In fact a list is a bit misleading, because there is no limit to what we can do together. All the things we share with others can happen in the community building, as it is often much more enjoyable and satisfying to do things together, than alone. Also the wider community are welcomed into the building to join our activities.

A PLACE OF WELCOME AND SUPPORT The building will be kept open as frequently as possible to welcome all who wish to spend time talking to God or the people who try to follow his way. The sanctuary space will be kept open for anyone who wants to spend time there to pray, to meditate, or to reflect in the quietness. The room has been acoustically isolated from its surroundings both so that our worship does not disturb the neighbors, but also so that the drone of London’s activity does not intrude.
Church leaders and other Christians of maturity and experience will often be available to offer support if we can be of any assistance, both with practical issues, and those seeking God through faith in Jesus.

A COMMUNITY OF MUSICIANS AND ARTISTS IN THE CHURCH Christians have a long tradition of artistic and musical creativity. From time to time nervousness about expressing emotion suppresses this aspect of faith, and the Victorian period especially, perhaps in reaction to rapid change in the world outside, experienced a rejection of modern artistic expressions in the church. At Westbourne Grove we want to set aside that discomfort and allow the artists in the Christian community to inspire, challenge and provoke us with their skills. We are fortunate to have many gifted artists and musicians, including Royal College graduates and self taught artists, and we welcome the insights and expressions which they share with us.

A PLACE FOR THE WIDER COMMUNITY Churches have always sought to serve the wider community of which they are a part. We recognise that we have no magic wand to wave to solve people’s everyday practical problems, but we follow the example of Jesus, seeking to recognise all as our neighbors and so to participate in the needs of the community through both prayer and practical help. As best we can, we will try to use our resources and space to help others, and to seek God for His guidance, help and healing. Especially we want to continue our work with the poor, homeless and disadvantaged, and would like to extend this work as much as resources allow. We hope to share with you the life with God that we have found, but will always do so only as you permit us, and your preferences will be respected.
The building presents an opportunity of course for the spaces to be made available to local residents and business people. Where this does not interfere with devotional activities of the church, the halls and rooms may be available for hire for events, or use on a low cost basis by local community groups. Please feel free to contact us to discuss this.
