Ceramics and Print

Mariwan Jalal

Mariwan Jalal is a mixed media artist utilizing a variety of materials and techniques to create subtle yet controversial works of art from ceramics to printmaking and painting. Whilst the work reflects elements and stories from daily life and the status quo, it also takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. As a Kurdish artist in forced exile living in the diaspora, Jalal’s art is a reflection or mirror of his background, the turmoil of his motherland, and the shaping of his identity. He makes work that is multi-level and conceptual, to be understood in a variety of ways. Jalal intends that the viewer will recognize the flow and rhythm in the structure and surface of his ceramics and printmaking.

During the years after his graduation Mariwan Jalal did a lot of research and explored many techniques to develop his works. This exhibition is composed of Ceramics and Print, and includes wall hanging and tableware. The pieces use techniques such as mono-print, screen-print and transferring images onto clay using different techniques.

Mariwan Jalal’s work has exhibited in many galleries in London and worldwide. In this exhibition he shows a selection of work from each of the projects he has engaged between 2009 - 2023 in order to draw you into the world of his art.

The exhibition runs from Tuesday 11th to Sunday 30th April 2023.

This group’s art exhibition explores the experiences of a group of individuals who have been displaced from their homeland and have found a sense of community and connection through their shared passion for artwork. Despite their diverse backgrounds and ages, these artists have formed an informal group that uses art as a way to exchange ideas and support each other's artistic development. The virtual world brought them together, but it was their shared love of artwork that truly united them. Art, and particularly the process of creating it, can often be a journey of self-exploration and experimentation. The artists featured in this exhibition are no exception. The artworks on display represent just a small portion of the journey each artist has undertaken to develop and refine their artistic vision. Through their art, these photographers are constantly seeking to explore new ideas and push the boundaries of their own creativity. This exhibition not only showcases the final products of this process, but also offers a glimpse into the ongoing journey of each artist as they continue to grow and evolve in their craft. By exhibiting their work, these artists invite viewers to join them on this journey, and to share in the excitement and discovery of their artistic explorations.
