Charlotte Thackery

Charlotte draws deep inspiration from the wild Atlantic coasts of Scotland and North Devon, as well as from her journeys along Britain’s ancient walking routes—including the South West Coast Path, Offa’s Dyke, and the Highland Way. The ever-shifting light on the sea, the textures of sand, the colours of the sky, the rhythm of waves, the call of skylarks, and the drama of weather are imprinted in her soul. These natural elements are more than subjects of observation; for Charlotte, they are sacred—paths of worship where she experiences communion with God. In water, light, and rock, she hears His voice and feels a deep sense of home and belonging.

Her work, expressed through photography and ceramics, invites viewers to glimpse the extraordinary in the natural world and, perhaps, sense something of the divine within it. Photography serves as both a tool and a practice—a way of training the eye to see detail, to observe closely. This discipline was nurtured from childhood at her mother’s side, learning to “look at, look at, look at.”

Charlotte studied architecture at the Universities of Bath and Kingston, and today she explores form and material through clay at the studio of ceramicist Barbara Gorton. Her work is rooted in attentive presence, spiritual reflection, and a lifelong dialogue with the natural world.
