Volunteering is such a rewarding way to be part of The Grove. Our community members love ‘giving something back’: it helps them appreciate what they’ve got, as well as the satisfaction of helping others.

 

Helping to serve the community of Westbourne grove

If you’re someone who likes to give something back, volunteering in The Grove could be a great fit for you! There are lots of opportunities which you can explore below, and you can expect to develop your skills and have lots of fun with others along the way.

 

 
 
  • Lobby Lunch is a free monthly meal for for those of low income and anyone suffering from loneliness or isolation.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Cooking and food preparation

    - Cleaning, tidying and washing up

    - Serving food

    - Setting up

    - Making cakes and other yummy goodies;

    - Be a friendly face on the day and chat with our guests

  • Monday Drop-In is our weekly breakfast for homeless people and those on low income.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Setting up tables and chairs

    - Cooking omelettes

    - Preparing and serving breakfasts

    - Chatting to guests

    - Clearing up

  • Gardening involves working with Bridget our head gardener planting, watering and tending our green spaces.

    We have three beautiful ferneries and a trellis of climbers that together create a beautiful outlook from the main hall windows. There are also four flower beds under the Silver Birch trees at the front of the church where people often stop and sit, as it’s a beautiful, quiet space.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Planting

    - Weeding

    - Watering

    - Maintaining the flower beds

    Gardening happens on Mondays from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

  • ArtSpace is a contemporary exhibition space at The Grove, which gives opportunities to artists to exhibit their work free of charge.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Being part of the ArtSpace team that assists artists with the preparation and hanging of their exhibition

    - Help run an Open Evening for an artist’s show

    - Assisting with Open Evening hospitality: setting up, running the bar, talking with guests and clearing up at the end of the evening

    - There’s always lots to do at ArtSpace!

  • If you’re someone who’s tech-savvy and enjoys comms, you could help us raise The Grove’s media profile or with maintaining our online presence.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Plan, create and post our content on our Facebook and Instagram accounts

    - Review our metrics on Google Analytics regular

    - Help us update and maintain our website

  • Film Club is a relaxed evening film-watching and popcorn eating, followed by an informal discussion on the movie.

    - Helping Chris with selecting films that provide an opportunity to think more deeply about life

  • If you have organisational skills and like to have some fun, our regular Fun Together events could be for you!

    Fun Together is where we rest, relax and have fun together. Previous events include: Cheesecake Championships, a river trip down the Thames to Greenwich, woodland walks, evenings around the fire and much more.

    Ways you can help out include:

    - Chat with people and find out what things they might like to do

    - Find out about places to visit or things to do

    - Plan events and days out and help to organise them

    - Get teams to gather to make things happen

  • Sundays are one of the key days in our week where we have our main meeting and there always lots going on.

    If you like to help practically there are hands-on thing to do like:

    - Setting up and packing away chairs

    - Serving teas and coffees

    - Getting ready for the communion

    If you enjoy being involved with hospitality, you could help out at our regular lunches:

    - Setting up tables and chairs

    - Laying the tables

    - Heating the soup and preparing bread and other food

    - Clearing away and washing up

    Alternatively, if tech is your thing, there’s room for you, such as with:

    - Setting up, packing down and operating our audio visual and PA system

    - Assisting with running the Zoom meeting on our computer
